SRI LANKA CAR TOURS - We make you smile!

About SRI LANKA !
Welcome to my beautiful island of Sri Lanka. The island’s proud history of over 2500 years will capture your heart and soul like no other destination. The time you spend in our island will be filled with exciting experiences and memories which will linger with you long after you leave these shores. “Ayubowan” (may you be blessed with long life) is Sri Lanka’s gesture of welcome and respect as palms of the hands are clasped together and accompanied by a gentle bow of the head. What may strike you most about Sri Lanka is its amazing diversity of scenery. It is possible to pass brilliant green paddy fields, sun-bronzed beaches, ruined cities, small lively villages, near desert regions, sanctuaries for wildlife in tropical jungles, and hill country tea plantations literally within hours of each other.

Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean off southeast India. Originally inhabited by the Vedda, the island was subsequently invaded by the Sinhalese (6th century BC) and the Tamils (11th and 12th centuries AD).The lucrative spice trade on the island was controlled successively by Arab, Portuguese, Dutch and British traders from the 12th century.
Sri Lanka became a British colony in 1798 and achieved independence in 1948. Declared a republic in 1972, the island adopted the Sinhalese name of Sri Lanka. With a population of 20 million people, Colombo is the largest city. The national capital, however, is Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, just east of Colombo.

He felt he was being followed by Bramhaasthi dosham (a malevolent black shadow) as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. Sri Lanka-One in a Million!!!
Sri Lanka is an island country in the Indian Ocean off southeast India. Inhabited originally by the Vedda, the island was later invaded by the Singhalese (6th century BC) and the Tamils (11th and 12th centuries AD). The lucrative spice trade on the island was controlled successively by Arab, Portuguese, Dutch, and British traders from the 12th century. It became a British colony in 1798 and achieved independence in 1948. In 1972 the island was declared a republic, and adopted the Singhalese name of Sri Lanka. Population: 20 million. Colombo is the largest city. The national political capital, however, is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, just east of Colombo.
Portuguese invasions in the 16th and 17th centuries were unsuccessful. The city and the region has been known by many different names and versions of those names.

Anuradhapura
Anuradapura is the Ceylonese political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years. It was abandoned after an invasion in 993. Once again accessible, this splendid site with its palaces, monasteries and monuments was hidden away in thick jungle for a long time.

The Buddhist principality flourished for a century until it was temporarily overthrown by an invader from the Chola Kingdom of South India. According to the Mahavansa, the Sinhala Buddhist chronicle, the city was well-constructed city and a model of planning.

Polonnaruwa
Like any other ancient South Asian city, the city of Polonnaruwa consisted of the royal precinct located within a citadel. It had a defence wall system, moats, monastic and devale complexes which were the ritual centres, and a well laid out market complex.
On the boundaries of the city were craft production centres and beyond them the agricultural hinterland. Vijayabahu's victory and shifting of kingdoms to the more strategic Polonnaruwa is considered significant, but the real "Hero of Polonnaruwa" of the history books is actually his grandson, Parakramabah

Sigiriya
Sigiriya has it all. Nothing in Sri Lanka better captures the imagination. This 200 metre lump of granite rises majestically out of the flat central plains. Its blood-stained history is full of intrigue, with astonishing frescos of bare-breasted maidens painted 15 centuries ago, and a wall covered in graffiti that is more than 1,000 years old. To top it all it has Asia's oldest surviving landscape garden.
The Sigiriya Rock Fortress of Sri Lanka is situated in the Matale district near Dambulla. It can be reached along the Colombo-Habarana highway.

Dambulla
Dambulla is about 12 miles south west of Sigiriya, on the Matale-Anuradhapura Road. The largest cave carries 48 statues of Lord Buddha, with statues of some Hindu gods (Vishnu and Saman). The statues of the Hindu gods date back to the 12th century when Hinduism took root in Sri Lanka and started influencing the arts.
The history of these caves dates back to the 1st or 2nd century B.C. when King Valagam Bahu took refuge in the caves while escaping from the invading army that drove him out of Anuradhapura.

Kandy
Kandy became the capital city of the last remaining independent kingdom in the island after the coastal regions were conquered by the Portuguese in 1592. Several invasions by the Portuguese and Dutch (16th, 17th and 18th centuries) and later by the British (most notably in 1803) were repelled.
